Trump and Xi Address Strait of Hormuz Crisis Amid Iran’s Peace Plan Proposal

by admin477351

Tensions in the Middle East took center stage as US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping discussed the ongoing conflict during their summit on September 25. Amidst these discussions, Iran has put forward a seven-day proposal aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz and mitigating regional hostilities.

The Iranian plan, outlined by Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, promises the resumption of normal maritime traffic through the vital Strait of Hormuz within a week if the United States agrees to the terms. The proposal also calls for an end to hostilities in the region, the lifting of the US blockade on Iranian ports, the release of frozen Iranian funds, and the removal of oil sanctions. Despite Iran’s push, the United States has yet to publicly accept the proposal, although discussions via mediators have been described as constructive, particularly on nuclear issues.

During the summit, Xi emphasized the importance of returning to the June framework that temporarily halted conflict, proposing a resumption of negotiations for a broader settlement. While Iran welcomed this suggestion, it remains firm on not making concessions regarding its nuclear program, including uranium enrichment.

In a related development, Trump cautioned Xi against providing any direct or indirect support to Iran. The US Ambassador to China, David Perdue, reported assurances from China that it is not aiding Iran in any capacity.

The ongoing conflict has significantly disrupted energy flows through the Strait of Hormuz, heightening tensions across the Gulf, Yemen, and Lebanon. In response, nations such as Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Turkey have engaged in talks to enhance military and intelligence cooperation amidst these growing regional security concerns.
