Italy played a pivotal role in hosting the second day of the Global Alliance on the Two-State Solution conference in Rome, a significant diplomatic gathering that included delegates from over 20 countries, along with representatives from the Arab League, European Union, United Nations, and Palestine. The meeting focused on advancing efforts for sustainable peace in the Middle East, particularly addressing the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani emphasized Italy’s emerging influence in global diplomacy and peace initiatives, underscored by the conference and forthcoming discussions between Israel and Lebanon. Tajani reiterated Italy’s support for establishing a Palestinian state, contingent upon the creation of a peaceful and stable environment conducive to coexisting with Israel. He stressed the crucial need for mutual recognition, security, and ongoing dialogue as cornerstones of a viable two-state solution.

Expressing concern over the escalating violence in the West Bank, Tajani condemned the attacks perpetrated by Israeli settlers and opposed any actions of settlement expansion or annexation that could jeopardize peace prospects. His remarks highlighted the urgency of addressing these issues to maintain momentum toward a diplomatic resolution.

The meeting’s participants engaged in discussions aimed at revitalizing diplomatic negotiations and enhancing international collaboration to achieve a peaceful settlement of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. These discussions reflect a collective commitment to fostering dialogue and cooperation, essential elements in the pursuit of lasting peace in the region.
